The Position

This position reports to the Head of Supply Chain Strategy & Operations, China. The individual is accountable for leading a supply chain function that the supply of products and services to customers and patients in China where and when they need it. Its core focus will be on warehousing and distribution.

In order to accomplish this, the individual will be responsible for the following:

Manage distribution and warehousing of the affiliate Finished Goods:  The individual will lead and develop a reliable Roche China affiliate distribution network at a strategic level to ensure uninterrupted supply to customers and patients to meet both customer satisfaction and cost effectiveness. This includes the management of: 

  • The affiliate logistics operating model with all relevant stakeholders; 

  • Importation of finished goods;

  • Third party logistics supplier relationships, contracts and performance; 

  • The affiliate logistics budget.

  • Operational activities at the China distribution centers. 

The individual will be responsible for the deployment of the Roche global Product Quality Standards for the operations in scope and ensure that operations are cGSP compliant.  In addition, the individual must also build good relationships with local authorities to ensure business continuity due to the dynamic regulatory and business environment. 


Drive China Supply Chain Transformation: This person must drive innovation to deliver the future vision of supply chain operations in China. This is done together with the China local and global key stakeholders within Roche as well as external service providers to address changes in the product portfolio, market access requirements, policy changes, and any other disruptions or events that could affect our ability to supply finished products and services to patients. Core focus will be on the flow of goods imported or locally manufactured, warehousing, expiration management  and other key technical points of importance for the portfolio and patients, leveraging on data analytics, digital solutions and best practice within the global Roche network and external benchmarks.

Lead and Manage a Group of Direct/Indirect Reports:  This individual manages a team of 12 FTEs comprising distribution, warehousing and logistics experts as well as supply chain transformation managers.  Jointly, this team holds accountability to develop a reliable distribution network to ensure uninterrupted supply to patients. As such, the leader of this team must be effective in mentoring/coaching and developing these individuals, knowledgeable on how to dive into the details and yet delegate work effectively, ensure the career development and progress of the team, drive culture change and engagement.

Build Relationships and Collaborate across the Company: This individual will support the Head of China Supply Chain Strategy & Operations in managing senior stakeholders in the affiliate, across the enterprise and other Roche businesses, in addition to functional stakeholders within Pharma Technical Operations (PT).  These relationships are critical for collaborations in problem solving, decision-making, best practice sharing and jointly delivering the strategic solutions.

Drive an Enterprise Mindset:  As a senior supply chain leader, this person must bring a mindset of “enterprise ownership” to this role, contributing to the broader culture of PT.  This individual will demonstrate a desire to further what is best for Roche and PT over their own personal objectives.  They, like their peers, will hold key decisions related to personnel, culture, finance, investments and other topics relevant to the broader PT organization as their contribution to the community overall.

Build and Maintain Strong Business and Process Acumen in both PT and Commercial:  This individual will drive continuous improvement and coach/support the supply chain team across PT and commercial to connect key business events and data points to understand the future direction and requirements of the enterprise as a whole.

  • Evidence of commitment to the larger enterprise (outside of self and immediate team)

  • An independent self-starter with the ability to establish and lead teams to achieve high-level strategic goals and resolve supply chain challenges. 

  • Ability to manage multiple demands and commitment to meet deadlines and budget commitments consistently.

  • Business acumen and financial understanding.  Able to use information to influence improvement in both performance and process.

  • Superior analytical problem solving skills with an ability to anticipate both strategic and operational issues and recommend solutions.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Materials Management or Life Sciences.  

  • 10-12 years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in Pharma logistics and cold chain experience preferred.

  • Working knowledge of cGSP.

  • Fundamental knowledge of inventory management principles.

  • Strong familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning and Warehouse Management Systems.  Specific experience with SAP preferred.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25%.
