Position: Informatics Business Analyst II

Location: South San Francisco, CA

Development Sciences Informatics (DSI) is seeking a talented and experienced business analyst to support informatics systems. 

Development Sciences (DevSci) is a translational science organization that plays a critical role both in Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) and late stage development of products at Roche. DevSci supports drug discovery and development projects across all therapeutic areas from discovery to launch (and beyond). We are poised at a unique time when large volumes of complex and varied internal and external data for DevSci areas, such as Biomarker, PK/PD, Diagnostics, Safety Assessment and Bio-analytical, need to be readily accessible to ensure that swift analysis, interpretation, and decision making can occur. These data impact decisions in ongoing preclinical and clinical programs, and provide key knowledge to inform new target discovery.

DevSci Informatics is accountable for leading the strategy and execution around data lifecycle

management, data standards, analytics infrastructure, ongoing data operations and informatics

Systems.  We build tools and implement processes to help our scientists and researchers perform their work more effectively, efficiently, and consistently


Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Contribute to the delivery of informatics solutions that are cost effective, scalable, fit for purpose, and meet business requirements.

  • Perform business analysis to understand and contribute to current and future needs of informatics systems

  • Translate business needs into technical requirements

  • Partner closely with scientists, scientific researchers, vendors, informatics engineers, informatics analysts, and data scientists/analysts to envision, implement, and support informatics tools and business process

  • Accountable for documentation including, but not limited to, user requirements, functional and/or technical specifications, process flow diagrams, and training documentation

  • Drives resolution of system or process issues.

  • Provides consultation to customers regarding enhancement/improvement of current solutions and implementation of new solutions – both systems and processes.

  • Facilitates and/or supports customers in UAT planning and execution.

  • Define and execute data migration efforts


Competences and Qualifications:

  • Understanding of R&D processes and scientific data life cycle. Able to bridge the disciplines of drug development and informatics.

  • Understanding of the software development process

  • Proven track record of leading business analysis that led to the successful delivery of informatics projects.

  • Experience managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships.

  • Excellent people and communication skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years relevant experience; or Master’s/PhD degree with 6+ years relevant experience; or equivalent experience. Degree in a scientific discipline preferred.
