The Position

Summary

Responsible for managing and prioritizing scientific and technical support to Downstream Manufacturing, tech Transfer Team, toward improving and optimizing operations. Support is accomplished through demonstrated proficiency in experimental design, complex troubleshooting, and advanced data analysis techniques; identification of processbottlenecks and vulnerabilities; planning for campaigns and leading new product introductions; and recommendationand implementation of new technologies. Leads complex troubleshooting of process, develops new equipmentrequirements and operating parameters, and provides and leads process validation support. Investigates operationaland process discrepancies, implements corrective action, and develops and validates manufacturing improvements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage staff through direct supervision in terms of project coordination, resource allocation, budgetcontrol, and applied methods.
  • Motivate and support the career development and technical expertise of reports, and communicate company policies.
  • Anticipate resource requirements, delegate appropriately, and assure reports are productive and work isfocused.
  • Responsible for completion of technical assessments, and investigation, development, validation, andexternal publications where appropriate.
  • Create, review, and approve manufacturing documents.
  • Contribute to regulatory filings.
  • Work closely with interdepartmental staff and customers to meet department and company goals.
  • May be responsible for resourcing and operations of the cell culture, purification, or analytical operations laboratories.
  • Contributes to advances in technological capabilities.
  • Monitor small scale and large-scale cell culture or purification processes to identify and resolve complexequipment and processing issues.
  • May be responsible for review/approval technical assessments, and drafts investigation, development, validation, and external publications where appropriate.
  • Design and execute studies and comparability protocols to support manufacturing operations.
  • Leads advancement in technological and organizational capabilities.
  • All employees with jobs that require access to the Warehouse must be able to pass theTransportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment (STA).
  • Promotes a safety culture that support continuous improvement in the EHS management system throughactive communication and functional area participation in site safety teams ensuring the safe and efficientoperation of assigned functional areas and activities. Fosters a positive safety culture in which no onegets hurt.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Engineering or Life Sciences.
  • 7+ years’ experience, including supervisory experience; guideline only.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to organize and problem solve.
  • Extensive practical and theoretical expertise in biopharmaceutical Downstream manufacturing processesand process validation. Emerging authority in their field.
  • Contact with collaborators, regulatory agencies, and vendors inside and outside the company includingcoordination across organizational lines. Develops a network for technical issues within the industry.
  • Must have excellent management, communication, interpersonal, organizational and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Familiarity with computer-based systems.
