The Position

Responsible for theadministration and operation of the site’s Building Management system andUtility System programmable logic controllers (PLC) and provides instrumentationand control engineering expertise to the Engineering Group. Focus on providing operationalsupport for existing facilities with respect to the instrumentation and controlsystems for process, utility and building systems. Provides operational supportand interfaces with the Siemens Building Management and Emerson Delta V systemsas needed.  


  • Perform electrical, instrumentation and control engineering designservices for existing facility projects, including upgrades and capacityexpansions, equipment upgrading and replacement.
  • Administer the operation of the Building Management Systems (BMS)and provide guidance to contractors to maintain and support the system.
  • Verify and provide guidance to contractors issuing BMS alarmreports
  • Serve as the site subject matterexpert for the various PLC systems
  • Act as the PLC system super user andensure system equipment and software are maintained in an operational state
  • Train personnel to interface withPLC systems on equipment and add or delete users based on training status.
  • Generate alarm reports, identifytrends and review data with Quality.
  • Reviewand approve design drawings, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams whichinclude all line sizing, instrumentation and control philosophies,
  • Reviewdesign specification testing and perform field inspection services.
  • Interactwith vendors.
  • Reviewand approve vendor information packages, including drawings and specificationsas directed to ensure validation and control system requirements are met.
  • Playa lead role in the start-up and troubleshooting of process equipment andcritical process utility systems.
  • Generatecontrolled documents to support the start-up, operation, validation andmaintenance of equipment and systems located in existing facilities. Examplesinclude functional specifications and detail design specification.
  • Provideinput into the validation of process equipment and associated utilities.
  • All employees with jobs that require access to theWarehouse must be able to pass the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)Security Threat Assessment (STA).
  • Ensures the integration of environmental health,safety, and security into the business processes, systems, and programs whilereporting safety and environmental incidents including injuries, illnesses, andsafety suggestions within one’s functional area.  Fosters a positive safety culture in which noone gets hurt.
  • Supportwork of the Engineering Group, which includes research/evaluate instrumentationand control components, review/modify control system concept/logic as a resultof troubleshooting.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’sdegree in Automation /Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical or Electricalpreferred) and 8 years experience, or Master’s degree in Automation / Engineering(Mechanical , Chemical or Electrical preferred) and 6 years experience.
  • 8year applicable instrument and control system experience.
  • 5 year in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry/GMP experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with a backgroundin manufacturing, design or construction.
  • Practical knowledge of ladderlogic (PLC programming) for Allen Bradley systems including Control Logix,Compact Logix., SLC and older version PLCs.
  • Practical knowledge ofprocess, utility and building control systems.
  • Practical knowledge of cleanroom or classified area design/requirements.
  • Practical knowledge of GMPguidelines, experience in generation of controlled documents.
  • Practical knowledge of PIDcontrol theories and techniques.
  • Proficient in ISA standardsand practices for instrumentation.
  • Proficient knowledge of BuildingManagement Systems, and associated programming languages.
  • Validation experiencerelated to control and computer systems.
  • Demonstratedgood organizational and time utilization skills.
  • Demonstratedstrong working knowledge of PC based programs and systems.
  • Demonstratedgood written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to generateengineering documents, drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to interact closelywith Plant Engineers and Process Engineers.
  • Ability to maintain closeworking relationships with Maintenance, Manufacturing, Development, Validationand QA groups.
  • Abilityto comply with cGMP requirements (gowning, documentation, and procedures) forperforming work within the manufacturing facility.
