The Position

Purpose:

The Finance Manager (Customer Facing) position resides in the Controlling & Financial Analysis (CFA) group within Commercial Finance and plays a key role in the direct support of the Commercial organization. The Finance Manager (FM) supports the Brand or Functional teams with the following: (a) manages financial month-end close activities, (b) manages and presents monthly reporting and variance analysis compared to budget and forecast, (c) supports business planning deliverables including annual tactical plans/budgets, quarterly forecasts, 3-year brand plans, long-term Business Plans, and Financial Activity Cost Tracking (FACT), (d) builds trusted relationships with Commercial Finance Decision Support team and key business stakeholders through insights from financial data analyses, including FACT resource allocation/trade-off scenario analysis, (e) strategic projects and ad hoc analysis, (f) maintains internal controls and compliance around key financial expense activities, and (g) reviews and implements CFA process improvement initiatives.


Responsibilities:
  • Diligently build and maintain effective business partnerships between commercial stakeholders and Commercial Finance Decision Support through close collaboration and regular meetings
  • Manage month-end close activities by reviewing and approving, journal entries, recodes, account reconciliations. Maintain compliance with internal controls and processes to enable VP’s sub-certification of financial results
  • Review and present insightful financial updates and variance analysis to key business stakeholders in order to enable transparency into financial performance and drivers. Support trade-off decisions due to strategy changes
  • Stay abreast and communicate/educate our business partners on all financial processes, accounting policies, and Healthcare Compliance policies relevant to marketing activities to ensure adherence and compliance (including contract payment terms, marketing expense recognition policies, approval hierarchy policy, controls around contracts/PO approvals, proper accruals)
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on audit support, reporting to external collaboration partners, Front Line Managers training, FRRs (Financial Responsibility Reporting) support, gFRS (Genentech Funding Request System), and Contracts reviews and approvals
  • Have strong command over all relevant financial systems, tools, data sets and reports, and reporting capabilities of databases
  • Review and implement process improvement initiatives that align with group and departmental goals, and takes lead role in those process improvement projects
  • Take on the “peer advisor” role to onboard/train new hires within Customer Facing
  • Take on the “mentor” role to the Internal Support team
  • Provide ad hoc analysis on strategic projects and present to senior management (e.g., Field Sales Promo Meals and Speaker Program, Catering Spend, Waste Watcher, and Sunshine Act Reporting) 
This position is not eligible for relocation.

Who You Are

  • Self-starter  with impeccable ethics and integrity, proven communication skills - verbal and  written, with a clear ability to effectively communicate amongst different  levels of the organization
  • Must  have strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Must have strong knowledge of Excel and familiarity with ERP systems (SAP and TM1  preferred), including use of Qlikview and BW financial reports
  • Proficiency  in accounting concepts, internal controls framework, and financial statement analysis
  • Experience  in preparing and delivering monthly financial presentations to senior  management within Commercial and Finance
  • Demonstrated  ability to work within tight deadlines and timelines, with proven experience in  meeting goals on time
  • Track  record in identifying process improvements and successfully implementing change
  • Excellent  attention to detail paired with timeliness
  • Must  have a BS/BA preferably in Business/Finance/Accounting and 8-11 years of  biotech/pharma or related work experience
  • MBA  and CPA license desirable
