The Position

To lead and promote cross functional excellence and effectiveness across the Global Product Development. Drive innovation, effectiveness and collaboration practices in decision making, change management, project quality design and project management methodologies to ensure a cohesive and efficient cross functional excellence operating framework.

  • Identify, optimize and embed development excellence across the PD organization in process, system and execution methodologies and competencies.
    • provide business transformation consultancy and expert project design and management leadership, incl. leading and/or managing cross-functional strategic initiatives and PD goals
    • development of strong capabilities across PD in executional delivery (e.g. change and project management, decision making, Learning & Development, Business Continuity) and liaise with PD Functional Excellence leads to promote best practices
  • Chair the Non-Molecule Portfolio Committee. The NMPC is a cross-functional committee with senior representatives from all PD functions, Finance and Informatics. The NMPC oversees the PD development infrastructure strategy and PD’s informatics budget (approximately CHF 180 Mio) on behalf of the PDLT, and is accountable for making process and technology decisions in support of that strategy.  In her/his capacity of NMPC chair, the head of PDExcellence is supported by the Non Molecule Portfolio Office (NMPO) (4 FTEs).
  • Provide leadership to the PD Site Heads, and chair the Site Leadership Forum; develop, implement and align PD Site strategy to ensure collaboration, innovation and harmonization of cross-functional best practices, employee engagement and talent excellence, as well a supporting the definition and execution of PD’s global strategies and goals.
  • Drive employee engagement priorities; collaborate across sites and functions to ensure Great Place to Work initiatives, organization design and talent requirements
  • Lead, manage and coach PD Excellence team members across multiple sites, through pro-active succession planning, performance evaluation, talent development and related promotion, reward and recognition activities. PDExcellence has a staff of approximately 40, located in Basel, South San Francisco and Wewlyn.

Who You Are

  • Features 10+ years’ experience in management consulting, ideally with 5+ year’s pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience in global and diverse markets.
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of medical, political and regulatory and industry developments across the value chain that may impact organizational work design and people engagement.
  • Proven track record in large scale change management, engagement strategies and mobilizing the organization accordingly, ideally with management consultancy experience in life sciences industry, spanning all phases of research, development, operations and commercialization.
  • Significant understanding of business improvement methodologies, consulting techniques, innovation and learning initiatives with the ability to influence others and drive strategic and cultural change.
  • Ability to work across divers, multiple cultures and countries and able to communicate and influence accordingly and effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate internally and to challenge senior management in relation to innovative and diverse practices and ways of working
  • Enjoy being at the forefront of a changing and competitive environment and foster learning, creativity, courageous decision making, and a speak-up culture.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, influencing and collaboration skills.
  • Possesses English language fluency, written and verbal.
