Associate Director, Global Head Business Excellence, PTD

Reporting to the PTD Global Head of Business Operations, the PTD Global Head Business Excellence will champion operational excellence activities in PTD to ensure sustainable improvement of critical business processes and systems to contribute to organization’s productivity. The head will promote an organizational culture of technical expertise, innovative thinking and agile responsiveness. Business Excellence partners with management and experts within the function to define business needs, monitor performance, prioritize opportunities, execute improvements and drive Lean Production System throughout the organization. The head will partner with key external stakeholders to align cross-functional business priorities and LPS initiatives.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape and influence the scope and structure of PTD Global Business Operations as a member of the leadership team.
Lead the PTD Global Business Excellence and effectively manage cross-site units with business process in Basel and South San Francisco.
Lead, manage and develop team members, set goals, perform appraisal and promotion reviews, create succession plans, actively support career development, manage team budget
Define processes, governance, communication concepts and ways of working for BE with key stakeholders within PTD/PT. Understand and articulate the key business challenges and opportunities within PTD; ensure business excellence efforts are aligned with the most critical business needs.
Establish and drive a strategic vision and site-wide program for LPS, OE/LEAN/Continuous Improvement in PTD-SSF
Act as a conduit and liaison to corporate Productivity/OE/Lean/Continuous Improvement teams and initiatives
Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, including effective use of BE and LPS tools and methodologies
Monitor business performance and training effectiveness, capture measurable impact of business excellence initiatives
Liaise with, negotiate contracts and manage external service providers for BE
Take accountability for actions, drives results. Make quality decisions and resolve problems rapidly
Make fact-based, timely decisions by considering alternatives before proposing final recommendations
Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, presents complex concepts with clarity and simplicity
Excellent planning and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask and adapt. Able to synthesize large amount of information. Able to deliver results despite shifting environment, remain effective under stress
Able to identify problems, define problem statement clearly and accurately and apply structured and disciplined methodology to identify data-driven root causes. Innovative and effective in solution development, risk control, and execution
Establish effective strategies for interaction with stakeholders in Research & Development, PT, and Commercial. Collaborate with other experts across the Business Excellence and Learning network
Contribute to the PTD Global Business Operations Leadership Team by thinking broadly across business enabling activities, contributing to the group’s vision and plan, and partnering with peers to meet global needs
Who You Are
B.S./ M.S degree in Engineering, Science or Business; MBA or advanced degree preferred
15+ years professional experience
Demonstrated outstanding contributions in one or more of the following: Operational Excellence, Training, Pharmaceutical Development, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing/Supply/Quality, Business Strategy & Analysis
Experience with Operational Excellence methodologies; Master Black Belt certification is a plus but not required.
Several years experience managing people; must embrace people engagement as a key to high business performance
Proven record of leading teams and organizations to embrace continuous improvement
Excellent communication skills, including an ability to deliver clear, concise messages to both management and the broader organization
International travel required
This position can be based in Basel or South San Francisco Campus.
