The Position

Genentech is looking for an experienced Communications Manager to lead the development and execution of strategic, all-employee communication campaigns and initiatives that inspire our 15,000+ employees and connect them to cultural pillars of science, patients and people, positively influencing retention and attraction. This role is within the Employee Engagement and Culture function within Internal Communications and is accountable for: 

  • Designing and delivering inspirational campaigns, communication tactics and engagement initiatives aimed at making Genentech feel like a great place to work. Responsibilities include campaign management, campaign strategy and communications development for programs aimed at inspiring employees about Genentech science, patients and people. Lead multi-channel, dynamic employee engagement initiatives that inspire pride in the company 

  • Providing strategic consultation and leadership for Corporate Relations programs. Serve as Internal Communications lead on cross-functional Corporate Relations teams that inspire employees about Genentech science, giving philosophies and reputation. Partner with Corporate Communications, Brand, Science Communications and Corporate Giving teams to design and execute communication strategies aimed at amplifying programs, campaigns and initiatives that positively tell Genentech’s story

  • Developing program recommendations and executing tactics that are aligned to Genentech’s Employee Engagement & Culture strategy. Develop campaign materials, including drafting original content, leading creative direction and overseeing the production of compelling campaign materials

  • Identifying methods to evaluate and measure success of communications tactics and campaigns

  • Conceptualizing and leading the development and execution of new strategic, innovative all-employee inspirational communications campaigns and cultural programs

  • Designing and defining strategic internal patient speaker program at Genentech

  • Leading Great Place to Work initiatives and corporate submissions

Who You Are

Education, Experience and Skills

Education / Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 10 years experience
  • Biotech/pharma experience helpful, but not required

  • Strong customer-orientation and proven track record of collaborative work relationships. 
  • Strong track record of managing external vendor partners and other internal colleagues in execution. 
  • Experience managing vendors, agencies and contractors, including graphic designers, freelance writers, videographers, photographers and production designers. 
  • Ability to prioritize workload and act with appropriate urgency

  • Sense of humor, creativity and positive energy
