Genentech Promotes Murphy and Adds Rogers to Public Relations Staff

South San Francisco, Calif. -- August 11, 1989 --

Jack Murphy has been promoted to director of public relations by Genentech, Inc. Murphy joined the biotechnology company last February as manager of corporate communications after seven years as a public relations consultant. His clients included US Sprint Communications Co. and National Semiconductor Corp. Previously, he was vice president/account supervisor with Ketchum Public Relations, San Francisco, where he managed a number of consumer and pharmaceutical accounts.

Murphy, 40, has a bachelor's degree in public relations from San Jose State University. He is an accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America, Peninsula and San Francisco chapters. He belongs to the Society for Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing.

Susan Rogers has joined Genentech as manager of public relations. For the past five years, she was with CIBA-GEIGY Corporation, Ardsley, N.Y., most recently as manager of external communications. Prior to joining CIBA-GEIGY, Rogers was an account executive with Burson-Marsteller, New York, and before that was public relations assistant at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y.

Rogers, 30, has a bachelor's degree in journalism and communications from Pace University, White Plains, N.Y. She is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators.
