Genentech Appoints Richard Brewer Vice President- Marketing

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., November 10,1989 -- Genentech, Inc. today announced the appointment of Richard B. Brewer as vice president of marketing Brewer, 38, previously was Genentech's director of marketing. In his new position, he is responsible for the company's pharmaceutical marketing and sales operations. He reports to James M. Gower, senior vice president of marketing.

Prior to joining Genentech in 1984, Brewer was cardiovascular marketing manager for G. D. Searle and Company in Chicago, Ill. He held several other positions during his career with Searle, including senior sales representative and manager of marketing research. He came to Genentech as product manager for endocrine products, and became the project team leader for the launch of the company's first product, recombinant human growth hormone. Following a series of promotions, he was named director of marketing in October 1988.

Brewer holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., and a master's degree from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
