Genentech Appoints Gary Lyons Vice President -- Business Development

South San Francisco, Calif. -- November 10, 1989 --

Genentech, Inc., today announced the appointment of Gary Lyons as vice president, business development. Lyons, 38, previously was Genentech's vice president of sales. In his new position, Lyons is responsible for all of Genentech's licensing and business development activities worldwide.

Prior to joining Genentech in 1983, Lyons worked for American Critical Care, a division of American Hospital Supply Corporation. During his nine years with that company, he held several positions in the sales organization, and was, most recently, their director of sales. He came to Genentech as director of sales, responsible for the recruitment, development and expansion of the company's sales force, and was named vice president of sales in February, 1988.

Lyons holds a bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
