Genentech Promotes Arthur D. Levinson to Vice President of Research

South San Francisco, Calif. -- August 7, 1990 --

Genentech, Inc. announced the promotion of Arthur D. Levinson, Ph.D., to the position of vice president of research. Levinson, who has been with the company 10 years, is responsible for leading Genentech's research organization, including discovery research and research technology.

Levinson most recently was vice president of research technology. Before that, he was staff scientist and director of cell genetics.

Prior to joining Genentech in 1980 as a senior scientist, Levinson was a post doctoral fellow with the department of microbiology at the University of California at San Francisco.

Levinson, 40, holds a doctorate in biochemistry from Princeton University as well as a bachelor of science degree in molecular biology and chemistry from the University of Washington.
