South San Francisco, Calif. -- May 25, 2000 --Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: DNA) announced the promotion of Andrew Scherer to vice president, Engineering and Facilities. In this position, Scherer is responsible for Corporate Engineering, Security, Environmental Health and Safety, and Facilities Services in South San Francisco. Scherer reports to James Panek, senior vice president of Product Operations.
"This well deserved promotion acknowledges Andy's significant responsibilities, contributions and development as a senior Genentech leader and collaborator," said Panek.
Scherer, 51, has been with Genentech for 12 years and has held various positions including director of Facilities Services and senior director of Engineering and Facilities Services.
Scherer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Texas A&M University. He was certified in the state of Texas as a Registered Professional Engineer in 1976. Prior to joining Genentech, Scherer gained 17 years experience in engineering, manufacturing and management at various oil and chemical companies, including Merck-Calgon where he served as plant technical manager.
