South San Francisco, Calif. -- April 10, 2001 --Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: DNA) today announced the promotion of Kimberly Popovits to senior vice president, Marketing and Sales, responsible for the company's CardioPulmonary and Specialty Markets. Popovits reports to Myrtle S. Potter, executive vice president, Commercial Operations, and chief operating officer.
"Kim has been instrumental in the growth and development of Genentech's sales organization," said Potter. "Her strong track record, demonstrated leadership ability and extensive knowledge of the CardioPulmonary and Specialty Markets make her the ideal person to successfully lead the combined marketing and sales functions in these important, growing areas of our business."
Popovits joined Genentech in 1987. In 1989, she was named region manager and in 1993, became a director of Field Sales. She was named vice president of Sales in 1994, with responsibility for Field Sales, Sales Operations and Managed Care.
Popovits began her career as a medical sales representative for American Critical Care/American Hospital Supply Corporation. She spent six years with American and held several sales management positions. She holds a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University.
