South San Francisco, Calif. -- May 30, 2001 --Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: DNA) today announced the promotion of Thomas T. Thomas, CFA, to treasurer. In this role, Thomas is responsible for Genentech's treasury, risk and insurance, real estate and purchasing functions. Thomas reports to Louis J. Lavigne, Jr., executive vice president and chief financial officer.
"Thomas has made significant contributions to Genentech by carefully managing the company's investment portfolio and assuming a major role in several of its recent real estate purchases," said Lavigne. "His background and experience at Genentech make him well suited to this important position."
Thomas, 44, joined Genentech in 1994 as treasury manager and was promoted to assistant treasurer in 1998.
Prior to joining Genentech, Thomas was a manager of financial strategy and investments at Del Monte Foods and an investment analyst at GE Capital. He holds a master's degree in business administration and a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a chartered financial analyst.
