South San Francisco, Calif. -- November 3, 1998 --Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: GNE) today announced the promotion of Joe Barta to vice president, Quality. Barta is responsible for quality assurance and quality control of all of Genentech's clinical and marketed products.
Barta, 51, who has been with Genentech for over 10 years, previously served as senior director, Quality Assurance, and has held positions at Genentech in the areas of pharmaceutical manufacturing and validation.
"This appointment acknowledges the key role that Joe has played in the success of Genentech's manufacturing and quality organizations," said William D. Young, Genentech's chief operating officer. "With his broad experience and strong leadership, Joe will continue to contribute significantly to Genentech's quality efforts."
Prior to joining Genentech, Barta served as director of Quality Assurance and Quality Control at Codon, and before that as group validation manager for Miles Laboratories, Inc.
Barta holds bachelor of science and master of science degrees in microbiology from Oregon State University.
He is a member of the Parenteral Drug Association, the American Society for Microbiology and the American Society for Quality.
