Genentech Names Moore New Head of Government Affairs Office

David W. Beier, former head of company's Government Affairs Office joined Administration as Gore's Chief Domestic Policy Advisor

South San Francisco, Calif. -- April 13, 1998 --

Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: GNE) today announced the appointment of Walter Moore, 46, as head of the company's Government Affairs office, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Moore joined Genentech in September of 1993 as Sr. Director of Government Affairs. In his new position, Moore replaces David W. Beier, who recently announced his acceptance of the position of Chief Domestic Policy Advisor for Vice President Al Gore.

Prior to joining Genentech, Moore served as Manager of Government Relations for Eli Lilly and Company, and prior to that as Director, Congressional Relations for Pfizer, Inc. Moore came to Washington as a staff member to Senator Lloyd Bentsen of Texas and later served as Political Director for the American Hospital Association. Moore is a graduate of Princeton University, and holds his MPA from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin.
