South San Francisco, Calif. -- February 22, 1999 --Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: GNE) today announced the promotion of David A. Ebersman to vice president, Product Development. Ebersman is responsible for all of Genentech's product development efforts and works closely with the various departments at Genentech which are involved in development to meet the corporate priority of advancing Genentech's product pipeline.
Ebersman, 29, who has been with Genentech for 5 years, previously served as senior director, Product Development, and has held positions at Genentech in the area of Business Development as business development analyst, business development manager and business development director.
"This appointment acknowledges the key role that David has played in the success of Genentech's Business Development and Product Development organizations," said Sue Hellmann, Genentech's senior vice president, Development and chief medical officer. "With his broad experience and strong leadership, David will continue to contribute significantly to Genentech's Product Development efforts."
Prior to joining Genentech, Ebersman was a Research Analyst covering biotechnology investments for Oppenheimer & Co, Inc., a New York-based investment banking firm.
Ebersman holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics and international relations from Brown University.
