South San Francisco, Calif. -- August 24, 1999 --Genentech, Inc. (NYSE: DNA) today announced the promotion of Laura Leber to vice president, Corporate Communications. Leber will report to Louis J. Lavigne, Jr., executive vice president and chief financial officer.
"This appointment recognizes the key role Laura has played in the success of Genentech's Corporate Communications organization and puts in place a highly qualified and able leader to carry forward Genentech's internal and external public relations programs," said Lavigne.
Leber, 37, joined Genentech in 1992 and most recently served as senior director of Corporate Communications. She is responsible for the overall strategic direction of Genentech's corporate public relations efforts including corporate reporting, advocate relations, marketed and pipeline products, employee communications and community relations. Leber received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. Prior to joining Genentech, Leber was an associate director of Corporate Communications at G.D. Searle and Co., a division of Monsanto Company.
