"It is a humbling honor to do what I love every day: work on challenging and important therapies to help patients."
I am currently a Senior Scientist and Project Team Leader for a Research Oncology target. In addition, I work with colleagues across gRED to enable target evaluation, very early stage project investigation and technology that would be beneficial to Discovery Chemistry and the broader organization. Prior to that, I have had the pleasure of contributing to several programs across therapeutic areas, first from the bench and then in a series of leadership roles.
Since starting at Genentech in 2012 as a scientist in the Discovery Chemistry department, I have also remained deeply committed to Environmental Sustainability as is the entire Roche/Genentech organization and have worked on or led several teams and initiatives seeking to apply Green Chemistry within gRED, the Roche organization and the broader Pharma Industry through the ACS GCI Pharma roundtable. Prior to Genentech, I was a Scientist and Senior Scientist at Amgen in the Medicinal Chemistry Department.
As a medicinal chemist, I apply a series of learnings including physical organic and synthetic chemistry, biochemistry, ADME properties and structure based drug design to generate designs to target a particular biomolecule or pathway for therapeutic intervention. This includes developing a hypothesis and designing key molecules to test them in a biological system. Outside of specific project teams, I focus on three areas: technologies to enable molecule generation through catalysis or biocatalysis, Green Chemistry, and using my knowledge of non-traditional scaffolds such as carbohydrates and carbohydrate mimetics to aid very early stage research.
