  • NEW! To facilitate a faster turnaround time for delivery of certain materials to academic researchers, Genentech has streamlined the MTA process by simplifying the transfer agreement. FAQ's
  • The information supplied here is considered NON-CONFIDENTIAL
  • This program is not for human protocol or for clinical use.
  • If you are requesting additional Reagents for a previously approved Research Study, please submit a Resupply Request by entering your original Proposal Request ID Number above.
  • We request that Material Request site users spell out all symbols - alpha, beta, delta, gamma, etc. - rather than copying and pasting the actual symbol. This will avoid confusion as some symbols can be misinterpreted during the save and review process.

Genentech is famous for its world class research. In addition to the research done at Genentech we also support investigators in academic institutions throughout the world by supplying key reagents for their research. The Research Contracts and Reagents Program at Genentech coordinates the interface with outside institutions. An easy way for researchers at other academic institutions to initiate work with Genentech is to complete the Material Request Form where they can request proteins, antibodies, and cDNAs from Genentech for their studies. These requests are granted on the bases of scientific merit and availability of material. Completing this form is the first half of the request process. Once your request has been scientifically reviewed, Genentech will inform you of the scientific decision on the proposed study along with the necessary MTA (Material Transfer Agreement) for the requested material(s) if the request is approved.

The Material Request Form is simple to complete and should take only 15-20 minutes when completed and submitted over the Internet. You may want to gather all required information before starting to enter data into the 2-3 page request form. A simple navigation bar at the top of each page allows you to jump around and preview all the information required. The request process need not be completed in a single session, you may save a partially completed request for 7 days by clicking the 'Save' button at the bottom of each page. Remember to bookmark this page and return to complete the request using the same browser and computer, else your data will not be retrievable. Cookies must be enabled in your browser in order to save your partial request and return to this form with the previous data you entered intact. When the Material Request Form is successfully completed you will receive a Proposal Request ID Number on the final confirmation page, as well as an email confirmation. Please make note of this number for future reference. You may also contact Ms. Dina Washington via fax at (650) 467-3096 or via email at reagents-d@gene.com if you have problems completing the request online.

Q. Why has Genentech changed its Reagents Program process?
A. Genentech is committed to supporting academic research by providing academic institutions with its proprietary materials without fee. However, Genentech has experienced a significant increase in demand for an ever growing list of materials under its Reagents Program. In order to better meet this demand in a timely manner and minimize the burden on our infrastructure, key aspects of the process have changed.

Q. What has changed in the Reagents Program process?
A. The most notable change in the process is a new simplified Materials Transfer Agreement (MTA) which takes into consideration concerns and comments of academic institutions by modifying, and in some instances eliminating, terms that have traditionally required lengthy negotiations. The new MTA fairly balances the academic researchers' and institutions' interests in research involving Genentech's proprietary materials while preserving Genentech's ability to continue to use these materials. Accordingly, Genentech will no longer accept changes to the terms of the MTA and, as a result, materials will become available to researchers far more quickly than before.
