We’ve come a long way in our ability to fight cancer. In the early days, the only techniques being studied were ones that attacked all fast-growing cells in the body.
Now, advances in science and technology are helping scientists reveal the underlying genetic drivers of cancer and learn how to target them. By probing the unique genetic makeup of each cancer with a technique called genomic profiling, scientists can match individuals with new types of treatments targeted to those characteristics of their cancer.
These types of targeted therapies can work in different ways. Tumor-specific therapies, for example, target mutations associated with individual tumor types. Tumor-agnostic therapies, however, can target mutations associated with many tumor types, regardless of where they are located in the body.
Explore these different ways to target cancer cells in Tumor Quest! See how well you can eliminate cancer cells in three journeys: non-targeted, tumor-specific, and tumor-agnostic.
