Calling All Citizen Scientists!
We recently received an intriguing plea for help from one Ralph Swoyer, an artisinal cheese maker known for his local cheese, Ralph's Killer Muenster. Ralph reached out to us because of our well-known expertise in genetics.
May 28th, 2013 - Genentech has just released an iPad app that inspires people to engage with genetics. The game -- called Ralph’s Killer Muenster -- uses a primary genetic concept to create ever more complicated puzzles for players to solve. It teaches people about DNA and genetics by challenging players' to identify and match patterns.
The app’s release was coordinated with the 60th Anniversary of Watson & Crick’s discovery of the structure of DNA. This discovery was the catalyst for Herb Boyer’s pioneering work with recombinant DNA, and the founding of Genentech with Bob Swanson.
Use the game to unlock the solution to Ralph’s dilemma. You could save a local man’s cheese. And the city of San Francisco.
Download the Ralph’s Killer Muenster App right away. Stop the Muenster. Save the city!.
