Genentech is expecting a supply shortage for Nutropin (Somatropin) AQ® NuSpin 5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg beginning August 2023 in the United States.
The shortage is driven by a significant and sustained increase in demand due to fluctuations in supply across several growth hormone manufacturers.
Our teams have been working to make Nutropin AQ® (somatropin) NuSpin® available as quickly and widely as possible. However, due to very high demand we still expect a shortage.
Genentech anticipates these issues will persist for the next several months, with potential return to supply stability in the first half of 2024. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation and communicate updates when possible.
Given the expected duration of the supply issues, Genentech at this time will not be allocating to wholesalers, specialty distributors or specialty pharmacies who purchase directly from Genentech. i.e. Genentech will NOT assign a specific quantity to each channel partner per week in order to spread supply over multiple weeks.
That said however, effective immediately, Genentech will limit orders based on the customer's past purchasing history to support equitable distribution of available product. This limiting of orders is anticipated to last only for the period until Genentech runs out of stock initially. Once Genentech runs out of stock, customers who attempt to order will have their pending orders canceled and new orders will have to be made with Genentech when the product is back in stock.
Customers who purchase from authorized distributors or wholesalers should contact their representatives for up-to-date information on any applicable policies that they may have.
We understand that this situation may be stressful and has a critical impact on our patients, families and providers. We are working through the options available to address this situation as quickly as possible. We are committed to proactive and timely communication as the situation evolves, and Nutropin AQ® (somatropin) NuSpin® supply becomes more readily available.
Nutropin AQ is available only through authorized distributors that have made a commitment to product integrity.
Be cautious of new or unfamiliar distributors that offer Nutropin AQ® (somatropin) NuSpin® at substantially lower prices that may be "too good to be true"; the product being offered may be illegitimate.
